Crewe residents celebrate community spirit with family fun day

By Matt Richardson:

Residents in Grovesnor Court, Crewe, have been praised for their community spirit after a successful family event.

Family Fun Day at Grovesnor Court
The event organised by resident Claire Nixon encouraged families to share in arts and crafts, chocolate hunts and other fun and games.

“It makes a big difference to get outside and meet the people that you live with. It's important to rebuild the relationships that do not appear to exist anymore in communities," said Ms Nixon.

Wulvern Homes and United Futures invested £130,000 into the development of estate in 2008, and they were on hand to offer their support to residents.

Wulvern Homes neighbourhood coordinator, Dave Stobbard said: “They're a fantastic bunch and we will always help out where we can in getting events like this to happen."

The estate, labeled the 'Derby Docks', has undergone a transformation over the last five years.

Problems with fly-tipping, litter and vandalism have been improved through new rubbish collection areas, secure fencing, pathways and new community spaces.

“There was trouble in the past, but the residents have worked hard to turn the area around and we have helped them by listening to their concerns and ideas.

"Hopefully, with events like this we will turn the reputation of the area around too." Mr Stobbard added.
